Learning from the Fail

I feel I had a big fail today. Or at least a “miss.”

Working with my Improv For Leaders class, it just didn’t go well. It didn’t click. It was challenging, to say the least, as a facilitator, to engage students today in conversation.

Now I’m taking time to reflect –

  • What could I have done better?

  • How could I do better next time?

  • Maybe I should add more improv activities for the discussion topic?

It’s easy to fall into the trap of blaming yourself. Don’t get me wrong, reflection is good. Just be cautious that you reflect objectively. Everything is an experiment. The reflection or evaluation step is important to learn, grow, and develop (or rebuild) confidence.

Brené Brown says, “Confidence is a process that includes surviving a few misses.”

So, I survived the miss and am regrouping for the next time I use this lesson. It may be great or it may be another miss. I’ll evaluate afterward!
