How Did I Get Here?

“You may ask yourself, ‘Well, how did I get here?’”

I was driving our oil-barrel “train” recently for a library event. As I’m pulling 9 train cars filled with happy children, I couldn’t help but smile and feel forever grateful.

The life I have now is nowhere near the ballpark I. In fact, if I try to remember my college and early post-college days, I can’t recall what I imagined my life would be like at the age of 55.

I can, for certain, state that it didn’t include three different careers, an entrepreneur idea of growing my own business, and operating an amusement ride!

In a graduation speech for Stanford University, Steve Jobs encourages us to “connect the dots.” Take time to reflect on where we are and how we got here. Be grateful and appreciative of the decisions you made to get you where you are today.

As I sit here, filled with the joy of children’s laughter, I realize that every decision I’ve made has brought me to this moment, right here, right now.

It’s been a fun, exciting, challenging, and rewarding journey so far. I’m excited to see what happens next!

Try this: take time this week to reflect on where you are and ask yourself “Well, how did I get here?”
