How Can I Help?

“How can I help?”

I belong to a professional group of coaches. In addition to monthly meetings, weekly Zoom meetings provide the opportunity to get together, discuss what’s working or not, and support each other with questions, ideas, and advice. It’s like group coaching for coaches!

Due to my juggling of commitments, it’s been over six months or more since I last dropped into one of the weekly sessions.

We talked about what’s going on in our practice and how we felt about it. I mentioned that I’ve been so busy juggling other things that my practice is on a side- or back-burner at the moment.

Everyone nodded in support and then one of my fellow coaches asked, “How can we help?”

While I didn’t have an answer, just asking meant so much to me.

People want to help. Sometimes, we just need to ask. However, when asked “how can we help?”, we let others know we see and hear them. Often, that’s all anyone needs. It also opens the door for them to think about how help could be …helpful. Or, the ask gives them a moment to think and clarify ideas. Offering to help is also a good reminder that we don’t get through this alone. We’re all in this together.

In the moment, I’m not sure what help I’m looking for. That being said, I love to help.

So, you there, how can I help?
